How to Install WordPress

The Usual Path From a Fresh Hosting Account to a Working WordPress Site.

  1. Point your domain at your hosting. Update the domain's name servers or DNS records as instructed.
  2. Create the site in your control panel. Add the domain, then install WordPress from the panel or by uploading it.
  3. Finish the 5-minute setup. Choose a site title, an admin username and a strong, unique password.
  4. Enable SSL. Turn on HTTPS and set the site address to https.
  5. Install only what you need. Fewer plugins means fewer updates and fewer security risks.

SSL and Basic Website Security

Good Habits Protect a Site More Than Any Single Tool.

  1. Use HTTPS everywhere. An SSL certificate encrypts traffic and shows visitors the padlock. Free Let's Encrypt certificates are widely used.
  2. Keep everything updated. Update WordPress core, themes and plugins promptly and delete the ones you do not use.
  3. Use strong passwords and 2FA. Unique passwords for every admin, and two-factor authentication where available.
  4. Limit admin accounts. Give people only the access they need.
  5. Scan for malware. Run regular scans and keep backups so cleanup is easy if something slips through.

Qila Cloud includes free SSL with automatic renewal and daily malware scanning with free cleanup. No one can guarantee a site is unhackable.

Website Backups That Actually Save You

A Backup Is Only Useful If It Is Recent, Stored Elsewhere and Tested.

  1. Back up files and database. A WordPress site needs both.
  2. Store copies off the server. If the server fails, a backup on the same machine fails too.
  3. Back up before big changes. Updates, redesigns and migrations.
  4. Keep several versions. Corruption is not always noticed the same day.
  5. Test a restore. Practise restoring so you are not learning during an emergency.

Qila Cloud makes daily off-site backups and keeps them for 14 days. Recent backups can be restored from the customer panel; older ones through support.

Hosting Migration Checklist

Moving a Website Between Hosts Is Easy When You Prepare.

  1. Take a full backup. Files and database, stored somewhere safe.
  2. List your assets. Domains, email accounts, DNS records, cron jobs and plugins that depend on the server.
  3. Lower DNS TTL. A shorter TTL a day ahead helps changes spread quickly.
  4. Copy the site and test it. Check the copy on the new host before switching DNS.
  5. Switch DNS and verify. Check forms, checkout, email and SSL after the switch.
  6. Keep the old host briefly. Leave it running until you are sure everything works.

Qila Cloud offers free manual migration. We plan the switch with you; zero downtime is not guaranteed.
